Having trouble staying the course to your dieting program? Be it a food diet or an exercise regime you’re on in an effort to lose weight or simply to further trim your waistline, here are four helpful tips to instill some discipline and motivation in you to follow through with your weight loss program.
1. Engage a personal trainer

If you have opted to go to the gym for regular workouts, engaging a personal trainer often helps. This is because you will have to book someone’s time and you need to meet it, thus forcing you off the chair and to the gym even when you’re feeling lazy. Unless you are prone to cancelling appointments frequently and not feeling bad over it, this should be a good motivation to get you going to the gym regularly.
Having a personal trainer is also a smart thing to do because you will ensure that you are doing the right programs to lose weight, provided you have talked through with the trainer about the results you are aiming for. Your personal trainer will also take your objective very seriously and help you achieve your target within a stipulated time frame. He or she will closely monitor your results as you work on your goals.
2. Maintain a food journal

If you get the greedy bug that makes you want to snack in between meals, especially on unhealthy foods, be strong and don’t give in! One way you can monitor yourself is to jot down your food intake for the day in a little notebook. Whatever food you eat for the day, be it a main meal or a snack, write it down and put down the time you ate them. In other words, maintain a food journal on a daily basis.
At the end of the day, reflect on the food notes in your notebook and see how much you’ve consumed for the day. If you have been snacking a lot, you will see a long string of eatings throughout the day and this should raise some flags in you to stop binging!
3. Weigh yourself regularly

If you don’t have a weighing scale at home, get one. Weigh yourself daily so that you can monitor your ups and downs. If you have gone up, you should be worried and go do something about it. Better yet, find out the reason why you have put on instead of losing it.
Is it because of your eating habits? It is because you’ve missed some gym sessions or simply not getting enough exercise? More importantly, you need to motivate yourself to keep going at your dieting program and not give up upon seeing your weight increase!
4. Keep good and supportive company

Stay away from people who say it is okay to skip your program for a day or two. Imagine what would happen if you give in to temptations and encouragements from people who tell you it is okay not to follow your plan and achieve your dreams.
You need to be with supportive people who will help you stay the course, and not those who will derail you. It is a good idea to let others know that you are putting yourself under a stringer dieting program so that they will remind you if you are not on track.
I hope the above simple tips to have better discipline will help you maintain a successful diet plan or exercise regime to lose weight and stay trimmed.
