Got your shirt stained from food sauces? Don’t worry. This smart tip offers you some methods to remove stains from your shirts or any clothes for that matter.

These tips to remove stains from clothes are some general home remedies so they are natural and environmentally friendly methods. So the next time you get ugly stains on your clothes, don’t despair and try some of these days to get the stubborn stains off.

1. Use talcum powder to remove stains

Sprinkle generously and gently tap some talcum powder onto the spot that’s stained and leave it aside for about an hour. The talcum powder helps to absorb the oils and stains. When done, just brush off the powder from the material and proceed to wash as you normally would.

I’ve personally tried this method before and I’m glad to say it works. I usually let the powder set in for longer than an hour (sometimes over night) before it is laundered if the clothing is not needed in a hurry.

2. Use hot boiling water to remove stains

Stretch out stained area of your clothing over a large bowl and secure it properly so that it stays in place. Stand some 1 to 3 feet away from the clothing and carefully and slowly pour the boiling water into the stain. Continue to pour hot water onto the stain until the stain is substantially removed.

I’ve yet to try this method out but I’ve read that this should work. If you are trying this method, do share your feedback by leaving a comment here to let us know if it is indeed an effective way to remove stains.

3. Use lemon to remove stains

Firstly, dampen the stained area with cool water using a sponge. Then, you can go two ways in using a lemon to remove stains from clothes. You can use a lemon slice to rub onto the stain or you can use lemon juice. You may want to soak the clothing after applying the lemon before you give it a wash.

4. Use vinegar to remove stains

Vinegar has many great uses. It is a very effective stain remover and it is used differently to remove different types of stains. To read more about using vinegar to remove stains, read this vinegar stain removal tip.
