how to avoid daylight robbery 286x300 4 things you should not do to avoid being easily robbed

Crimes have been rampant even before the economy dipped end of last year. Now that the situation has become worse and many people are laid off their jobs, I suspect crime rates have escalated in the recent months although they may not be reported.

Here are some practical tips and guide to help you steer clear of untoward incidences. You may already know these things at the back of your head, but I would like to reinforce them as a reminder to everyone, because we often forget and may even take small things for granted. And these are the things that can cause us to pay dearly should things go wrong.

1. As much as possible, try not to save your family members’ contact numbers in your mobile phone using indicative words like Hubby or Wife, Mom, Dad, Sis, etc. Use their names instead. This is so that in case your mobile phone gets stolen, at least the culprit will not have access to your family’s contacts.

Why is this important? Just imagine a simple scenario where the culprit has access to your spouse’s phone number. The culprit could pose as you sending a text message to your spouse, asking for private password or pin numbers which your spouse may think nothing about revealing because it is supposedly you on the other line, without knowing that your phone has been stolen. This is just a mild example of what could go wrong. I’m sure you can imagine a lot more worse scams that can be possibly pulled off with your family members.

2. Never leave any mails or correspondences that bear your home address in your car. If anyone breaks into your car and get hold of your home address, you’re only inviting them over for an unwanted visit! Same goes to leaving your house keys in the car. With both address and a valid key, they won’t even need to break in as they are free to help themselves to open your doors!

3. Similar to the above, if you have a GPS device, never store your home address on it and leave it in the car. There were cases where cars were broken into and when the culprit got their hands on the devices, they were conveniently led right to the doorstep of the owners! I know it can be cumbersome to lug around a device like that whenever you leave the car, but it may well be worth your while to do so.

4. Never ever write down your ATM or credit card pin numbers and keeping them in your purse or wallet together with your cards. It’s just too convenient for the thief to have all the access they need to your bank account! It’s also not save to store such information on your mobile phone. Best to just select pin numbers that you can easily memorise and keep it all in your head.

Similarly, don’t store your internet banking log in details anywhere that can be a compromise. Not even when you save them in a document stored in your laptop or personal computer. When you bring your devices for servicing, you do not know whose hands get onto such information. The case of the sex scandal of Edison Chen and his ladies should teach you a thing or two about how deleted files can still be traced back.

I hope the above 4 safety tips have been useful to you to avoid being easy robbery targets. Stay save and be cautious of your surroundings always!
